What is Tablets?
Most tablets are slightly smaller and weigh less than the average laptop. while some tablets include fold out keyboards, others, such as the Apple iPad and Motorola Xoom, Only offer touchscreen input.
Since tablets do not use a traditional keyboard and mouse as their primary forms of input, the user interface of a tablets is different than a typical laptop. For example, instead of double-clicking to open a program, most applications open with a single tap. Instead of clicking on a scroll bar to scroll through a window, most tablets applications allow you to swipe up and down anywhere within a window to scroll through the content.
Since tablets PC's provide a different interface than traditional computers, they offer unique possibilities for graphics applications, games, and other programs. Because of their small form factor, they are extremely portable and can be easily stowed in a backpack or a briefcase. still, because tablets lack A Keyboard and mouse, some tasks such as typing documents and writing email messages, are more difficult on tablets than traditional computers.
History of Tablets
The concept of a tablet was first sketched by alan kay while at xerox in 1971. Since the, there have been many iterations of tablet devices, including the PDA, a predecessor to the tablets. The first successful tablet most of today's tablets resemble is the Apple iPad, which was first released in 2010.
Is a tablet Computer?
Yes, a tablet is considered a computer. Even through a tablet uses a different operating system and input devices, many of the components contained in it are very similar to what is found in a computer.
Microsoft Tablet PC
Microsoft Tablet PC is a term coined by Microsoft when they introduced a specification and edition of windows XP called the windows XP Tablet PC edition. Microsoft Tablet PC allowed handwritten recognition and a windows computer to be used with a pen.
The tablets edition could not be purchased by itself, but did come pre-installed on tablet PCs, such as the HP TC1100 tablet PC. With the release of windows XP Service pack 2, the Tablet PC edition became part of Windows XP.
A Tablet is an alternative name for a graphics tablet.
Advantages of Tablets PC :
- Portability (can work from everywhere and small enough to put in handbags)
- Small Weight (lighter than most laptops)
- Smaller in sizes
- A Flexible Screen (you can choose to place the screen in landscape or portrait)
- An attractive design.
- The handwriting recognition.
- Can be used as a GPS navigation device.
- Offer the same functionality as a normal computer.
- Gesture recognition.
- A powerful pen recognition.
- Ideal when you are in a conference.
Disadvantages of Tablets PC :
- Hardware is prone to damage.
- Weaker capabilities.
- Traditional Keyboards are much more comfortable.
- The screen size is too small in comparison with a laptop.
- Higher cost.
- Do not come with optical drives for use with CDs or DVDs
- Ineffective for the cognition of complex engineering concepts.
- Potential screen damages and repair costs (more chances of screen damage to tablets PCs than to laptops : tablets computers are prone to problems like crack, dead pixel, blown back-light bulbs and bad sensors).
- Difficulties to work on the small screen as compared to larger screen size of the laptops.
- Less number of ports.
- cannot embrace massive amounts of data.
