Regular Computer v/s Gaming Computer

Introduction

The best gaming keyboards available in 2020 | KnowTechie
There is no doubt that gaming computers are much more powerful than regular day to day computers and laptops. In this article, we are going to look at where exactly the difference lie between these two devices.

A gaming computer or gaming PC or gaming rig is a personal computer that is specially made for playing high graphic games. Because of this, they require high amounts of computing power which is made possible by extra components such as high core count CPUs, graphics cads and lots of RAM. All these would be features not necessary in a regular day to day computer.

A regular computer on the other hand is the everyday personal computer you use for basic stuff like emails, watching movies, browsing, streaming and typing. Their internal features do not need to be enhanced such as in gaming computers.

Gaming PCs vs Regular Components

The following are the major difference between gaming PCs and regular computers.

Gaming Computers have Better Graphics Card/GPU

Gaming computers need to be process high quality HD graphics real time without any stutters or molding of images. This needs a powerful graphics card. Sure there are some regular computers with GPUs, but usually, they are not as powerful as the ones in gaming rigs. The most powerful PU makers are the Nvidia and AMD technologies. Graphics are seamlessly on the screens because of this powerful tool.

Gaming Computers Have Better Quality and Higher End Audio

Since PC games tend to make audio as rich and realistic as possible, the gaming computer should be able to produce these sounds as they were intended to. The audio plays an important role in transporting the player to the virtual game universe. This is why audio quality cannot be compromised. Gaming PCs come with much better speakers than regular ones. This coupled with the high end graphics take the gaming experience literally out of this world.

Gaming Computers Have More RAM and Better Processors

What's The Difference Between Gaming Computer and Regular Computer?
The CPU processes information on a computer. CPUs have core processor that make this possible. You  may have seen a laptop branded i7 or i5 or most recently, i9. All these refer to the CPU processors. The higher the number the better and faster the CPU is. A gaming laptop should have at least core i5 processors. It is also better to buy a quad core or hexa-core processor when it comes to a gaming laptop.
It is not uncommon to find a gaming computer coming with 16 GB of RAM. We can all agree that this is a lot of RAM. Regular PCs have on average about 4 GB RAM which is enough to run the basic operations of a day to day computer. However, a gaming computer has to handle a lot more data in form of graphics, audio and memory. All these have to be supported at the same time and this is the reason for the high RAM they have. The minimum RAM a gaming PC should have is 8 GB.

Gaming Computers have Liquid Cooling Tubes

Some gaming computers, especially the high end ones, have cooling tubes for their liquid coolant. Now as much as this would be insane if found in a regular computer, it is not uncommon in gaming PCs. The more powerful the computer, the more heat will be released by the system. A liquid coolant is found mostly in very powerful CPUs to cool the GPU, CPU and the processor. As much as regular PCs heat up, it is rare to find one with liquid coolant.

Gaming Computers Have Longer Battery Life

How to Increase Your Laptop Battery Life | PCMag
The battery life applies to gaming laptops. Gaming laptops have much more battery life than regular laptops. They can last up to ten hours without a single charge which is quite a fete. Their long battery life is attributed to the fact that gamers game for hours on end. A gamer should have the ability to play as long as possible without charging if need arises. They are also too expensive to have regular batteries, don't you think?

Gaming Computers Have Better Display

There is no point in having smooth frame rates and gorgeous graphics if the display is ugly. Gaming computers should have a nice rich and crisp display which all of them do. This is not really necessary on a regular PC as there is no need for it. The quality of displays is determined by four major factors : resolution, touch screens, matte/glossy, OLED and G-Sync display.
  • Resolution: The screen's resolution is how many frames are in a pixel. The minimum resolution for nay gaming laptops is 1920*1080. Anything less is a poor display. Higher quality have 2560*1440, also known as 2K. More 4K laptops are in the market these days with 3840*2160 pixel panels.

  • Touch screens : Gaming laptops are starting to became touch screens. However, it is seen as an unnecessary feature in gaming PCs.

  • Matte or glossy : Glossy display are shiny and are known to display colors better and make them more vibrant. However, their shiny surfaces create an annoying glare tat can damage the eye after long periods of use. Matte displays eliminate all glares and reflections but tend to wash out color and detail.

  • OLED : OLED displays tend to correct the faults of matte and glossy displays. They allow for thinner, power saving screens while still providing a rich color and contrast to images. The Alienware 13 R3 uses this technology.

All these factors make a gaming PC a better device, although still expensive. If you're not gaming there is really no need to get a computer with such high specs. You should now have a better understandings of the fundamental differences between these two computers.
